Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to our 2nd Newsletter.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and a great start to the New Year.

Thanks to all those parents who sent me copies of the pictures they took, if you were unable to send pictures there is still time.

I would like to congratulate all those students who received their Yellow Belts and Orange Belt. Way to Go!!!!!!
Doug Sensei and I were very impressed with the performance of each student.

I would also like to welcome our new white belt.

Current Competitions.

As we did last year, we are having a Bring a friend competition.

The prizes this time are:
1st Place Wooden Bokken with wrapped handle, signed by Doug Sensei and I.
2nd Place Wood Shoto (short sword) with wrapped handle, signed by Doug Sensei and I.
3rd Place Wood Tanto (dagger) with wrapped handle, signed by Doug Sensei and I.

The competition ends the last week of classes before the summer vacation.
The rules are the same as last year; those students who have the most friends enrolled in our classes will receive the prize.

Theses Wooden Weapons are NOT to be brought to class, they serve a better purpose being displayed at home.

Current and Future News.
As most of you may know, we were featured in the Chesterfield edition of The Richmond Times Dispatch on Sunday 13th. A copy of this article is attached.

As I am sure most of the students have mentioned, things have tightened up in the class.
Martial arts is about self discipline and respect, amongst other things, so with that being said students who arrive early should sit down and behave, no horseplay will be allowed before, during or after class.
Acceptable behavior during class is to be expected, just as one behaves in regular school classes.

February is a very important month for The Meditative Warrior as this is one of our Primary fundraising months.
We are in need of several items, a laptop, Quick Books for non profits, a dojo management software program to name but a few.
We are also hoping to obtain either a 5x7 enclosed trailer or a passenger / cargo van. This will enable us to carry all the training mats that we have, providing a larger area to train on. And last but not least with summer vacation only a few months away, we are hoping to be able to afford to lease space in the Midlothian / Chesterfield area to provide more classes and expand our program.
In order to do this we are happy to accept donations, but we realize that donations will only carry us so far. Over the last few months we have put together a sponsorship program for business to receive advertising and a variety of other benefits in exchange for their sponsorship.
It is our sincere hope that we will soon be able to realize our mission of having a martial arts dojo open to all. Your thoughts and wishes are greatly appreciated.

Future Events.

We hope that once spring arrives and the weather warms up to have our 1st Car wash Fundraiser, BMW of Midlothian will be hosting this. More information will be provided closer to the event. We will make it a fun day!!!

In closing I would like to say Thank You to everyone for your support and ideas.

As always please feel free to contact me with any ideas, questions or concerns.
